When we talk about Botulinum Toxin aka Botox, most are familiar with its ability to smoothen out wrinkles for a younger and fresher appearance that shaves years off one’s actual age. Riding on the surge of popularity in Korean aesthetics all across Asia, Botox had also gained a strong fan base with the unique role it plays in shrinking down enlarged masseter or jaw muscles to help achieved the highly coveted ‘V-Line Face’. As time goes by, the use of Botox has branched out to make it a Swiss army knife of sort for injectable procedures, and this powerful neurotoxin can actually do much more, some of which you would never have guessed….

Keeping pits and sweaty palms dry

Medically known as Hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating can be effectively treated with Botox microinjections to the affected area(s) to cull the potential social embarrassment associated with it. In fact, celebrities including A-listers, Halle Berry and Emma Stone have been known to get a little underarm Botox for Hyperhidrosis before award season as sweat stains do not photographed well, nor are they an option when you’re put in a really expensive couture gown on loan. Instead of paralyzing moving muscles to iron out lines, Botox works on the glandular muscles that control sweat secretion to tackle localized profuse sweating.

“The treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete and pain is virtually negligible especially when topical anaesthetic cream is used for numbing prior to the Botox jabs.” Reassured Dr. Low Chai Ling, medical director from the SW1 Clinic, a one-stop centralized hub providing medical spa, cosmetics dermatology and aesthetics surgery in Singapore. “Generally, the drying effects achieved can last about six months and works equally well for sweaty palms, soles and scalp.”

Shrinking pores & blemish control

In recent years, Botox has gained popularity and found its way into a younger cohort of patients with its alternative role in blemish-prone skins. When used correctly, studies have demonstrated reduced oil production by about 30% in 4 weeks in treated subjects with oily skin. By utilizing a special injection technique known as Micro-Refine, miniscule doses of Botox are introduced intra-dermally or shallow in the skin to cause shrinkage and atrophy of the oil producing sebaceous glands and sweat glands, leading to a barrage of complexion-refining effects without compromising the movement of major facial muscles. Pore size is noticeably reduced and skin appears matte or ‘airbrushed’ secondary to decreased oil production and the diminished appearance of acne scars.

Correcting a gummy smile

A gummy smile is used to describe excessive display of gums or gingival tissue in the maxilla upon smiling. This can cause undue psychological hindrance as the individual with excessive gingival display will be self-conscious and often tried hard to stifle a wide hearty grin or attempt to hide it with cupped hands. This unattractive look is due to a hyperactive lifting or ‘elevator’ muscle which tend to raise the upper lip a little too much when it breaks into a smile.

Careful placement of botulinum toxin allow us to reduce the upper lip’s elevator muscle’s hyperactivity to improve upon the smile line and can be seen 5 to 7 days post treatment. Results are further enhanced when paired with Revitalift Lips, a pucker-perfecting procedure whereby microinjections of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid filler help to augment and give the lips better definition for an aesthetically pleasing smile that’s exceedingly natural looking with amping up its size nor volume overtly.

RBF no more

One of the most endearing features of a youthful face is a subtle hint of a smile, a playful tilt of an upturned lip which unfortunately is something that goes missing with age.The RBF aka ‘Resting Bitch Face’ is a phenomenon in which the resting face though not emoting any feelings in particular unintentionally appears annoyed, irritated, or contemptuous, thus leading people to believe a person must be upset, a snob or a total bitch.

A study led by behavioral researchers Jason Rogers and Abbe Macbeth and published in the Washington Post gave validity to the so-called Resting Bitch Face (RBF), a meme that took the Internet by storm in 2013 and largely focuses on celebrities.Using a program called FaceReader to analyze facial expressions, Rogers and Macbeth discovered that the neutral expressions of people labeled as having RBF actually do exhibit twice the amount of “contempt” cues as those without RBF which might lead to social misjudgment and avoidance.

The sullen expression is often due to the strong downwards pull of the muscles around the corner of the mouth coupled with diminishing quantities of collagen that support and lift the corner of the lips. With a touch of correctly placed Botox at times combined with some Natural Facial Filler, a subtle yet effective mouth-lift falls into place to make a huge difference to a Resting Bitch Face.

Get ballsy

While vaginal rejuvenation procedures to improve upon both the appearance and working order of the ladies’ bits is by no means strange in this day and age, men seem to be largely concern with only the functional aspect of their manly parts. However, it seems like the tables are about to turn with things happening down South to “perk up those crown jewels”, with reports of men flocking to give wrinkly scrotums the sack with Botox injection. Also affectionately named as “Scrotox”, the treatment aims to reduce the wrinkling of scrotal skin with Botox microinjections, allowing the testes to hang lower for a smoother, larger and better filled appearance of the scrotum.

GQ magazine reported that in 2016, British blokes are paying as much as $5000 for Scrotox, while men in USA and Australia are also having their ball sacs smoothened in increasing numbers. With 60 fast becoming the new 30, it is perhaps not as strange as it sounds as men who feel vital and youthful on the inside may desire to look a little less well-worn on the outside.
