Rage Against The Age

It’s not a secret that women are more conscious of their age than men; after all, nobody ever says women “age like wine”.

We wear the scars of aging more prominently, as compared to men. They have the unfair advantage of passing off fine lines and wrinkles as “rugged” or simply obscuring it with facial hair.

With no form of “cover” for our signs of aging, it is pretty easy to wear your age on your sleeve, if you do not establish any form of a skincare routine to stem the effect time has on your skin.

The war on age is a long and arduous one, and you need allies to have a fighting chance.

The Various Stages of War

Our skin goes through various states of changes, each coming with their own set of problems, at different stages in our lives.

During your pubescent years right up to your 20s, you might have encountered the odd pimple here and there if you’re lucky, an uphill struggle with more than the odd pimple like the most of us, or horrible boil-like cystic acne in the more extreme cases.

Some lucky ones might catch a break from their mid-20s onwards…until another wave of attacks hit you as you approach the big 3-0. Sunspots, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation might start to appear on your increasingly sensitive skin.

As your body’s ability to produce collagen and elastin continues to falter with the years, your skin starts to lose its density and hydration when you enter your 40s. The early signs of fine lines and wrinkles will start to surface on your significantly drier skin.

Now at this point, if you’re not doing much about the condition of your skin but wallowing in silent self-pity, everything goes downhill from your late 40s and early 50s.

This is when gravity wrestles to pry your youth away… and wins. Your skin starts to feel thinner, and the parts that used to stay up will start to droop. Along with the wrinkles, crows’ feet, and fine lines that are already on your face, you might even start to look older than you are.

Rein in the Reinforcements

The various stages of the aging process do sound pretty scary, don’t they? That is why the earlier emphasis on the importance of having “allies” to fight on your side to combat the evils of aging.

The allies can come in the form of scientifically substantiated skincare products, like a multi-purpose facial scrub that cleanses and minimizes your pores, a skin-brightening moisturizer,  or even a wrinkle-fighting day and night cream.

They can also come in the form of FDA-approved, multi-functional programs that target and eradicate multiple problems in one sitting.

One popular non-invasive, no-downtime procedure that tightens and smoothens skin would be Thermage.

An FDA-approved procedure well-received because of the minimal discomfort, Thermage uses radiofrequency waves to stimulate collagen production in the deeper recesses of your skin, increasing in skin volume, tightening and even a contouring effect when applied on certain areas of the face.

With the opening of aesthetic clinics island-wide come the 19th of June, you now have one more weapon in your age-fighting arsenal.
