Some people have made of their “outsized” profile their distinctive feature, like Barbra Streisand. Others, instead, couldn’t stand the slightest flaw, like chica Jennifer Lopez, who chose nose surgery to have the tip of her nose thinned. It is not always necessary, however, to make such radical decisions.
Some flaws may be corrected with non-invasive techniques, like the use of hyaluronic acid or dermal fillers.
“A filler may be used to correct an irregular tip, or camouflage an irregular bump on the nose” says Dr Low Chai Ling, medical director of SW1 Clinic.

I have a very flat Asian nose that I’ve never liked, but I’m terrified to go under anesthesia and have an actual surgery like Rhinoplasty, so I just kind of accepted that I’d have to live with it. I didn’t know the temporary nose job even existed; I stumbled upon it when I was looking for a doctor to laser away my sun spots last year.
I’m really anxious when it comes to procedures and anything medical, but the staff at SW1 Clinic were so comforting and made me feel at home. While I was in the waiting room, I saw some information pamphlets for the non-surgical nose job and I was like, Oh my gosh, what is this?!
10 Minute Affair
I was the perfect candidate for it since I’d just need a little bit of filler to make my nose look straighter and more symmetrical. I wasn’t looking for a big change as I am all about embracing my Chinese heritage with pride, but a bit of nasal enhancement in this area was welcomed! I was nervous about the pain and the downtime, since I work in the fashion industry and this was during Christmas season, but Dr Low told me it was quick and easy and I’d be able to go to work the next day. So, at the last minute, I decided to do it. After careful measurements of my nose and facial proportions, she recommended that I use just 1 ml of fillers to see if I like the final result. I was grateful that my doctor was meticulous, careful and gentle.
A cheery nurse rubbed on numbing cream and 15 minutes later, my nose area was completely numb and just felt a tiny, tiny little pinch when he stuck the needle in. I’d compare it to eyebrow waxing — uncomfortable and not the greatest feeling in the world, but not painful. All in all, it was just a couple of pokes — she just stuck the needle in at the top, then he did a little bit at the bottom of my nose to lift it, then sculpted and shaped the filler with her hands. It was an instant result. It was literally a 10 minute affair! I was so stoked; it was magical.

A Quick Take
I was told not to wear heavy sunglasses for a week or two and to make an appointment to come in two weeks later to check that it was to my liking. The healing process was so minor. The strange thing was initially I was worried that other people may notice the change, but after the procedure when I realized what a different a small tweak of my nose made to my entire face, I felt that the good doctor was right when she advised that I needed the fillers to harmonise my face. In the end, I actually secretly wished I had done more! I guess women can never be truly satisfied (LOL).
I wasn’t embarrassed to talk about it. My parents loved it and thought it looked so good I was spamming photos on my Instagram. I mean, I work in fashion, so it’s all about looks and appearances and first impressions — I’ve never been the type of person to be like, “No, I’ve never had anything done.” If it’s a safe procedure that makes you feel more confident, I’m all for it.
The thing you have to realize with a non-surgical nose job, though, is that it’s usually not going to be a crazy drastic result. You have to be realistic and understand that it’s a subtle enhancement. No one came up to me and was like, “Oh my god, you got a nose job.” People told me I looked good, but they didn’t know that I’d done anything.
With a nose job, you only have one shot, and you wake up, and it’s like a surprise on your nose. This is a very correctible and predictable procedure. And because it’s natural hyaluronic acid fillers, I can always reverse it. If I don’t like it, I can always ‘melt’ the filler by having the doctor inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
I have so many friends who had surgical nose jobs and I feel like some of them could have just done the non-surgical option. It’s such a great option that not many people know about. If you don’t want to deal with surgery and complications or risks, or you’re afraid of going under, this is a good alternative.
